Level Staff is a graduated aluminum rod, used with a levelling instrument to determine the difference in height between points or heights of points above a datum surface. It cannot be used without a leveling instrument Most of the staffs are sectional and so can be adjusted in length to allow for easy storage and transport. The aluminum staffs adjust with telescopic section inside each other, whilst the wooden versions use sliding slip joints or connections.
